Work Towards Retiring Early

Do you want to retire early? Here are some quick steps you can take toward furthering your goal toward early retirement. First, you have got to save for it. Savings are probably the most important component. If you need to increase your savings consider paying off credit cards, eating out less and buying used whenever it makes sense. Buying items on EBay can save a great deal of money.

Second, look at your investments. If you’ve got it all in CD’s you’re not making enough money off your money. Check out mutual funds and see which one would work for you.

Third, consider a second income if you need more money. Is there something you can do part-time which could help earn extra money for increased savings? Many people turn hobbies or passions into a second income. A friend I know just started doing photography for weddings and special events outside his regular job.

Fourth, downsize wherever you can. Smaller house, smaller car and less expensive vacations will all help you get closer to your goal faster. To motivate yourself, just think of the reward.

Last but not least, consider keeping that part-time job when the time comes to retire from your full time job. Then you can count on that extra income and your savings program won’t have to be as stringent.
