Tie Dye T Shirt

Tie dye is always cool and always unique. Tye dye t shirts make great Christmas gifts and are inexpensive to make. It’s a fun activity to do with kids or just get a bunch of your friends together and have a tie dye party. You can serve tequila sunrises a sort of tie dye drink. If the weather is nice you can do them outside and not have worry about the mess.

So here are the materials you need to have on hand to get started tie dying:

Materials

Disposable plastic gloves

3 or 4 plastic buckets, depending on how many colors you are using

Rubber bands

Smocks or clothing you don’t mind getting messy.

Dye - such as RIT Powder, which can be found at craft and some grocery stores.

T-shirts or other items you want to dye

Instructions:

1. Wash an old t-shirt or soak a new one, and leave wet.

2. Twist t-shirt or tie knots, securing with rubber bands.

3. Mix 1 package powdered dye with 1 quart hot water and 5 tablespoons salt.

4. Let water cool to room temperature, then soak the t-shirt in each color for 20 minutes.

5. Rinse shirt in cool water until water runs clear. Undo knots, then rinse again. Hang shirt to dry.
