How To Recycle Your Valentine Day’s Flowers
Written by admin on January 27th, 2009 in Home Remedies, save money.
What do you do with with your beautiful Valentine’s Day flowers, if you received roses you have an opportunity to recycle them into something equally wonderful. Rosewater is a traditional and safe natural cosmetic which can used as a soothing lotion or compress for sore or inflamed skin says Pamela Allerdice in her book Natural Remedies from A - Z. Here is Pamela’s recipe:
Recipe for homemade rosewater - You can make your own rosewater by taking a handful of the flowers and place them in boiling water and simmering for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain, then cool before use.
Save your flowers and dry them. Simply remove your flowers from the vases and wash the stems gently to remove bacteria. Gather the flower stems into small bunches, about a ½ inch in diameter, and wrap them tightly with a rubber band. The stems will shrink slightly, so make sure the band is tight. Hook a paper clip through the rubber band and hang the bunches, upside down, from the ceiling, with a hook or string. Keep them upside down so that the stem don’t bend from being top heavy. Keep them out of sunlight so they won’t fade.
Save just the petals of the flowers - I have a large glass jar and after the flower heads have dried, I take the flower petals and place them in the jar.
If you don’t want to do any of these things - simply place the flowers in your compost pile.
