The American Animal Hospital Association and other groups recommend brushing your pet’s teeth every day if possible.
1. Introduce a brushing program to pets gradually. Avoid over-restraining your pet and keep brushing sessions short and positive. A cat or small dog can be held in your lap. Praise and reassure your pet throughout the process.
2. At first, dip a finger into beef bouillon for dogs or tuna water for cats. Rub the soaked finger gently over the pet’s mouth and teeth. Make the initial sessions short and positive.
3. Gradually, introduce gauze over the finger and gently scrub the teeth in a circular motion.

What do you do with with your beautiful Valentine’s Day flowers, if you received roses you have an opportunity to recycle them into something equally wonderful. Rosewater is a traditional and safe natural cosmetic which can used as a soothing lotion or compress for sore or inflamed skin says Pamela Allerdice in her book Natural Remedies from A – Z. Here is Pamela’s recipe:
Recipe for homemade rosewater – You can make your own rosewater by taking a handful of the flowers and place them in boiling water and simmering for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain, then cool before use.
Saw this in the travel section and thought it was really a neat idea. Vocation Vacations was started by Brian Kurth, a former business executive from Oregon. He started his company in 2004 and his organization connects curious people with mentors who have the jobs they have only thought about pursuing. Vacationers pay a fee ranging from $545.00 to $2,000 (airfare and lodging not included), though most are less than $1.200.
Are you considering buying a smart phone? We have a business columnist who writes in our local paper and he is really good at explaining technology. Here is what he had to say about buying a smart phone.
Do you really need one? - Smart phones are great for communicating in a variety of ways – email, instant messaging, via social networks, and texting. Most let you take pictures; many capture video. You can access the Web and some let you install more programs on them. So – do you really need all the extra stuff? A standard phone can send text, take pictures, capture video, even work with e-mail. How badly do you need the extra features a smart phone would bring you? My phone does all those things just mentioned and it is not a smart phone.
You find such a wide range of prices when you are shopping for clothing. It is difficult to know if you are really getting a bargain or the item is just made cheaply. Sometimes you find really cheaply made clothing selling for unreal prices also. I just read a really great article in Woman’s Day magazine about how to tell whether the clothes you are buying are well-made. Here is a summary of what the article said:
Eye the pattern: Look at the fabric to see if the patterns line up at the seams. If the pattern is matched unevenly that tells you the clothing is poorly made.
Here are some time honored cures and prevention tips I found in our local paper:
1. Use caution: If you’re having a holiday party, designate a bartender who can keep an eye on how much everyone is drinking and avoid over-serving guest, the Distilled Spririts Council of the United States recommends. Providing food and nonalcoholic options for party goers also is a good idea.
2. Try an ounce of prevention: Eating almonds or peanut butter before drinking is thought to prevent intoxication, according to Health991.com. The site also advises that evening primrose oil and prickly pear cactus extract help prevent hangovers.
I know so many people who have ruined carpets and tables trying to get candle wax off of them. Graham Haley of Haley’s Hints has a tried and true method for removing candle wax. First you get a paper towel and fold it in half. Then heat your iron to medium heat. Cover the candle wax stain with the paper towel. Press the iron to the towel and leave for a few seconds, then move it around the paper towel pressing each spot for a few seconds until all candle wax has been absorbed.
Graham Haley author of Haley’s Hints has this great tip on how to clean costume jewelry. It is so easy and very inexpensive. Here are his instructions:
Take two denture tablets and dissolve them in water. Place your piece of costume jewelry in the solution and let it soak for 30 minutes. Remove jewelry from solution and see how sparkly clean it is.
