How To Spend Less Dining Out
Written by admin on November 21st, 2008 in save money.
Everyone’s looking to save money these days, but it is still fun to go out to eat. There are a few ways you can shave money off your bill.
Enjoy the freebies - Many places will give you bread, chips, or crackers for free. Even if you or your kids fill up on them you can take your meal home and make another meal out it.
Drink water - Don’t order the fancy water or soda and you can save a few dollars per person on the bill. Your children will protest violently but tell them it is better than not eating out at all.
Skip the special - As the waiter tells you about the specials, one thing you’ll seldom hear is the price. That’s because if they told you, you would never order the special. Stick with what is on the menu so you know how much you are spending.
Ask about extras - Often the staff will ask if you want a baked potato or vegetable with your entree and neglect to tell you that it is an additional cost. So ask if it comes with the meal so you know what you are paying for.
Take home leftovers - You can cut the cost of your dining experience in half if you make another meal out of it at home. Restaurant portions can be huge and it is perfectly acceptable to bag what is left and take it home.
Don’t order the coffee after dinner- Restaurant coffee is notorouisly bad, you can brew better at home.
Split dessert - Restaurant desserts are usually huge and are enough to serve two people.
Don’t order alcohol - Restaurants make the most money on drinks – there is a huge mark-up on alcoholic drinks. There are some restauants that allow patrons to bring their own wine to enjoy during their dining experience.
